Activities
Having spent many years discovering the beauty of Zihuatanejo, we’re delighted to share a curated selection of our favorite experiences and hidden treasures.
The beautiful beaches of Zihuatanejo Bay
Zihuatanejo’s coastline is a study in contrasts—calm coves, wild stretches of open surf, and hidden shores where time slows. Each beach offers its own rhythm, from morning swims to sunset strolls.
Our Favorite Beaches
-

Playa La Ropa
Renowned among Mexico’s most romantic beaches, La Ropa’s calm, crystalline waters are perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or long sunset walks. Its Blue Flag certification speaks to the purity of its water and care for the environment. The beach’s name, “the clothes”, hails from a colonial legend of a shipwreck whose silks and fabrics once washed ashore.
-

Playa Las Gatas
Reached only by a short boat ride across the bay, Las Gatas is sheltered by an ancient man-made reef. Legend says it was built by a Tarascan king to calm the Pacific waves. Its name comes from a harmless local shark once said to inhabit these waters. Today, it’s a haven for snorkeling, leisurely swimming, and seaside dining beneath the palms.
-

Playa Larga (Long Beach)
Stretching nearly 20 kilometers along the open Pacific, Playa Larga is a vast, untamed expanse of golden sand. Its dramatic waves make it unsuitable for swimming, but ideal for peaceful walks, horseback rides, or quiet contemplation by the shore. At sunset, it offers one of Zihuatanejo’s most striking views.
-

Playa Principal
Also known as Fishermen’s Beach, Playa Principal is the beating heart of Zihuatanejo, where boats dock, locals gather, and the town’s fishing heritage comes to life. At dawn, fishermen return with the day’s catch, filling the air with color and motion. It’s not a swimming beach, but an authentic glimpse into daily coastal life and the freshest seafood you’ll ever find.
